Improving energy efficiency reduces carbon emissions

When you save energy, the financial value isn’t limited to your utility bills. Saving energy also makes a real-world impact in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

With greenhouse gas emissions on the rise, it is critical that energy consumption is reduced to achieve emissions targets in Canada. Natural gas is the primary heating source in affordable housing, and a significant portion of emissions is released from energy used for space and water heating.

Along with other utilities in the province, Enbridge Gas Distribution offers enhanced incentives to help affordable housing providers upgrade to energy efficient equipment designed to save money and reduce their carbon emissions.

The Affordable Housing Program helps customers to manage the high up-front costs and financial payback risks of implementing upgrades and retrofits. Energy saving capital improvements help pay for themselves through the cost savings they deliver over time, as well as reduced ongoing operating and maintenance costs.

Custom Solutions and Incentives

Building owners planning capital improvements may be eligible for a one-time retrofit incentive of up to $100,000. An Energy Solutions Consultant (ESC) works with them to develop a plan and helps them submit their application.

Fixed Incentives

Fixed Incentives are designed to help offset the cost of energy efficiency upgrades that will reduce the amount of natural gas consumed and the customer’s overall natural gas bills. Find a complete list of 2017 Fixed Incentives here.

Upgrade Fan Systems

Air handling systems move air throughout a building and directly affect the comfort of tenants. Upgrading and adjusting fan systems and adding variable speed drives optimizes the delivery of air in the most energy-efficient way.

Heating and Cooling Systems

Heating and cooling systems offer great opportunities for saving energy and increasing tenant comfort. Incentives are available to retrofit or install energy-efficient models and upgrade boilers and other central plant systems to energy-efficient standards.

Free In-Suite Incentives

The program also offers Low-Flow Showerheads and Novitherm™ Heat Reflector Panels, provided and installed in every unit of an eligible building, free of charge.
